Community rules

NeighborTrade is for adults exchanging ordinary, lawful personal items locally. Be accurate about condition, ownership, and what you want in exchange.

• Only list items you own and have the right to trade. Use your own photos or photos you have permission to share.
• No weapons, ammunition, drugs, tobacco or vaping products, alcohol, prescriptions, stolen or counterfeit goods, recalled or unsafe products, animals, sexual content, or personal information for sale.
• No threats, harassment, hate, exploitation, scams, misleading listings, or unsolicited advertising. Never request passwords, sign-in codes, or payment to release an item.
• New and edited listings undergo automatic text and photo screening. Listings that pass publish automatically; flagged items stay private for human review. Screening can make mistakes, so report concerns and contact support if you disagree with a decision. We may remove listings and suspend trading access when these rules are violated.

Meet safely

Keep arrangements in the app, choose a public meeting place, tell someone where you’re going, and inspect both items before confirming the exchange. NeighborTrade does not process payments, provide delivery, or guarantee an item’s quality or value.

Report and block

Open a listing or trade conversation to report it or block the neighbor. Blocking stops new offers and messages between you and closes open trades. Reports go to the moderator; you can see their status in Account → Safety center. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

What we collect and why

We use your email and authentication records to sign you in; your display name and city to identify your profile; your listings and photos to show items; and your offers, messages, and exchange confirmations to run trades. We record when you join NeighborTrade and which community rules you accept. Reports, blocking records, and review decisions help protect the community. Service providers also process technical logs needed to operate and secure the service.

Location and photos

“Use my location” is optional. If you choose it and allow location access, coordinates are sent to BigDataCloud to suggest a city and help improve its location data. NeighborTrade saves the city you confirm, not your precise coordinates. You can type your city instead. Selected listing photos are resized and re-encoded on your device before upload to remove embedded metadata. Images themselves may still reveal personal information; check them before posting.

Who can see your information

Members who have verified their email and joined NeighborTrade can see approved available listings, their photos, and associated display names and cities. Trade participants can see their shared trade details and messages. A moderator can review listings and submitted reports, including the listing or recent conversation attached to a report. Your email is not included in the trading workspace. Technical administrators can access stored records to operate the service and respond to issues.

Service providers

OpenAI Sites and its hosting providers serve this website. Supabase hosts account, database, and photo services. OpenAI receives listing text and photos for automatic safety screening. We do not send your account email, sign-in credentials, city field or private conversations to this screening service. Avoid including private information in listing text or photos. Resend delivers sign-in emails. BigDataCloud receives coordinates only when you request the city suggestion. Apple distributes the pre-release iPhone app and handles TestFlight diagnostics under its own policies. Information may be processed in countries other than your own. NeighborTrade does not sell your information or include advertising tracking.

Storage and deletion

Your shared account data remains until deletion or necessary service cleanup. Unsent message drafts are kept in memory and clear when the app closes or you sign out. The iPhone stores sign-in credentials in its protected Keychain. The website keeps sign-in credentials in memory only. Reloading or closing the page means signing in again; your saved listings and trades remain on the server.

Use Account → Delete my account to permanently remove your sign-in account, profile, shared listings, uploaded photos, reports, and trade conversations involving your account. Those conversations also disappear for trading partners. Open trades close and other members’ reserved items are paused. Deletion cannot undo copies someone already made. Provider backups and security logs may remain until their normal expiry; this app does not directly erase those records. Contact us for questions about access, corrections, or retained records.

The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly accept children’s accounts. We will update this page when the app’s data practices change.

Include the screen or feature involved and what happened. Do not send passwords or sign-in codes. If account deletion is interrupted, return to its confirmation screen and retry, or contact support.

Support is not an emergency service. Use local emergency services when someone is in immediate danger.
